Installation Guidance (Helpful Tips)

Use caution when handling the Auto Tack Mat as the tack pins are very sharp! Nevertheless, the Auto Tack Mat is simple to install. The mat is cut with scissors to the size and shape desired, and it is installed using the double-sided adhesive provided. The adhesive squares can be cut in half to accommodate installation in smaller spaces.

Before installation the engine surface needs to be cleaned where the Auto Tack Mat will be positioned. The engine surfaces can be cleaned with damp paper towels and an ordinary household cleaning product; surfaces should NOT be cleaned with any product that leaves an oily residue, as this will interfere with the adhesive needed to secure the Auto Tack Mat.

The highest priority areas to cover with Auto Tack Mat are any level areas adjacent to wiring. And mice can occupy even small spaces in an engine, so be sure to evaluate any area located next to wiring.

Rodents most often will occupy areas closer to the center of the engine, where there is sufficient headroom for their comfort and movement. They also seek areas of the engine with metal surfaces, which retain heat better than non-metal materials in the engine.

It may be tempting to want to vacuum or simply brush out any rodent droppings from the engine, but this is not advisable as contaminated dust and particles may become airborne during the vacuuming or brushing process and inhaled.

A safer approach to removing the contamination is to use damp paper towels to remove the droppings, and additional damp paper towels (that have been sprayed with a cleaning product) to clean the surfaces. Disposable gloves are recommended, and a disposable mask is recommended when cleaning engines with significant contamination.
