Adding “Slope” to the Auto Tack Mat

An additional technique to deter rodent occupation is to make the area less level, by securing an object underneath the Auto Tack Mat. Non-level areas are less desirable to occupy, and by adding slope to the inhospitable surface of the Auto Tack Mat you can further reduce the likelihood of rodent occupation. This tactic can be particularly useful in protecting wiring located next to a level area.

An object of about 1½ inches in height is typically sufficient to create the needed slope. Examples of objects that may be useful to create slope include a small piece of wood or a metal corner brace (available at hardware stores).

The object can be placed under the center of the tack mat, or it can be placed in an off-center location intended to “shield” a specific area of the engine. The slope-creating object should be secured in place with the two-sided adhesive before being covered by the mat.

If an object is secured under the Auto Tack Mat to create slope, additional two-sided adhesive may be needed to secure the edges of the Auto Tack Mat to the engine surface (this will depend on the engine configuration and where the slope object is placed). If additional two-sided adhesive is needed, numerous products are readily available at office supply and craft stores.
